The Old Farmhouse

I was trying to think of a witty way to start this post, but I'm coming up empty.

Mr. Terry is officially out of the farmhouse and we are moving forward with plans to make it a livable house again.  Cause the nicest way to tell you the condition he left it in is "unlivable."  Andrew and I had convinced ourselves it was the structure of the house that wasn't worth saving, but the actual house is very sound.

The cleanliness?  Well, that's a whole other story.

Apparently Mr. Terry had a bit of a hoarding problem and was ok just leaving his treasures behind.

And he left a lot of treasures.  A lot.

I don't have any pictures from before any work was done.  Which is a bummer to me, but you should probably thank me.  Also, be thankful that this is a 2 demential blog because the glasses of milk that were uncovered would knock you off your feet.

So a ton of trash has already been tossed and the yard looks 800 times better than it did two weeks ago.   The big dumpster was dropped off on Monday and there's been a team of amazing friends out here almost every single day working their behinds off.  So things are moving and it's exciting.  But before we get too far into this project, I think I'd better show you around.

Welcome to the Farmhouse.

The Farmhouse sits about 50 yards from our house.  We can see the side entrance from our back porch.

When we first walked in and saw how nasty is was, I was ready to throw in the towel.  Now that some of the rubble has cleared, we can see the adorableness of it again.  It's going to be a ton of work, but we know that a year from now, this house will be full of life again and we can't wait.

It's a nice sized farmhouse.  Two good sized living rooms, 2 smaller bedrooms, an office type space, and a bathroom.

Andrew's MawMaw's piano.  Ancient and seriously weighs 2000 pounds.

I'm excited for the cosmetic changes that are going to happen, but first we have a slight trash problem to deal with.

I'm sure it's no surprise to you that "work" isn't really my favorite thing.  So the next few pictures make me break out in hives.  If the house was unlivable, the barn is a down right shame.

Seriously.  Who lives like this?

So that's what we are dealing with.

But I can see the potential.  And the actual plans for what is going to happen up there make me more excited than I've been in a long time.  It's going to be a wild ride!

I am envisioning a "Craft House South"--You know, like Meg Duerksen of the blog "Whatever". That would be AMAZING!!!!

I would love to be your "Kimberlee" if you go for "Craft House South." Her job is like my dream job! And by the way, I drooled over that piano - GORGEOUS!

You Brave people you! I can remember having Sunday lunch there when Mawmaw was there cooking and bringing people together all the time. I will always remember her and her southern hospitality! And then you and Andrew as newlywed living there and making it so nice. That farmhouse has some amazing history....and now, a new chapter begins. It's going to be good!
