Homemade Finger Paint

I was feeling extra Martha Stewart-ey the other day and decided to pick something off my Pintrest page and do a project.

We had everything we needed to make finger paint so we went with that.

Seriously people, why are any of us spending 10 plus dollars on store bought finger paint if it's this easy to make at home?!?!

It took us about 10 minutes and these are the only ingredients:

2 Cups Water, 1/2 tsp Salt, 3 tbsp Sugar, 1/2 Cup Cornstarch

Plus Food Coloring

Mix everything in a sauce pan.  Spoons optional.

And feel free to lick the cornstarch if you feel so inclined.

Toss your pan on the stove over medium heat and stir consistently until it gets thick.

This is the consistency you're aiming for:

Then separate your paint into jars, add food coloring, and let cool.

We stuck with the primary colors, but these jars are full.  We easily could have branched out a bit and had plenty to use.

We put about 5 drops of each color in.

Love this! Believe it or not I was just thinking about homemade fingerpaint the other day(mostly wondering how 18mo old friendly it is lol) and was so glad to see this on your blog. Question-how washable is it? Could I easily hose it off of our sidewalk? Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for the recipe. I'll have to try this with my kids... unless they are too old now. Can you ever be too old for finger painting?
