Counting 1,2,3

I am not a numbers person.

I always did OK in math class, but never loved it.

As far as I can tell, figuring out how much 30% off equals in Target is the extent of my day to day math.

So it comes as no surprise to me that I've kinda slacked on teaching Josie numbers.

She knew 1-10 and I was just fine with that.

But then I figured, someday she may want to buy some really nice boots and, since she's my child, she'll wait for a sale and she will need to be able to calculate numbers higher then 10 to see what kind of deal she's getting.

So here we go with learning math.

She learned 1-10 by playing Number BINGO.

She loves learning through play.

So I whipped up another one of my high tech worksheets and we stamped our way to 20.

She loved her little stampers and had a great time.

Maybe teaching math won't be all that bad.

That's a great idea!! Math is not my favorite area either, and I didn't learn percentages until way after high school. :/ lol. I think I will use this idea if you don't mind, with my little girl! THANKS for another great post :)

Such a cute idea! I was always so terrible in Math. I worked the concession stand the other night at the football game & struggled making change LOL

When the kids were little I labeled the food in the pantry (5c, 10c, $1, etc.).

They would then grab an item for five cents and another for ten cents, etc., and they'd have to pay me for it with monopoly money.

We would switch roles and I'd be the shopper and give them the money and then they, as cashier, would give me change and count it back to me.

I didn't think much of this "game" until we went to a yard sale one day. I used to give the kids some money to spend which taught them to bargain shop and also kept them from whining about wanting to go home, lol!

Anyway, my five year old bought something and he counted out his change to the seller, who was a kindergarten teacher.

She was very impressed that he could count out money like that. I was totally surprised that she thought it was a big deal. Until I had my second child who didn't like math so much, haha!
