Super Gabe

Who's wearing the World's Tiniest Superman Undies?

Gabe is!

Seriously.

The smallest size I could find is pretty much falling off his little booty.  But, boy oh boy, is he ever proud to be sporting Big Boy Undies!

He thinks he's pretty big time now.

I'm still pretty mad at him for growing up so fast.  He's downright disobedient about it.

We've been testing out the undies in the afternoons when I have more time to ask him every 5 minutes if he has to go potty.  I've never thought I'd hear myself saying, "Don't pee on Superman," 100 times a day, but I am.

He's doing awesome.

He has had a few accidents when he's really in to whatever he's playing with, but for the most part he's getting to the bathroom in time.

I had to document his first day in undies.  Gabe was a good sport about it and used the photoshoot to show off his mad modeling skills.  He's got skill.

I think our Diaper Butt days are numbered.

Too Grown

While most of my friends are trying to get their toddlers out of diapers, I am apparently raising another Potty Prodigy.

Gabriel has decided that diapers just aren't cool.

He used the potty the first time when we were in Florida in February.

My brother said, "I think Gabe needs to go to the bathroom."

I smirked at his naivety.  "He's just turned two.  He's not potty trained."

But Gabriel kept pulling at his diaper and I couldn't deny that it did sound like he was saying, "potty."

So I took him.  And he went.

I figured it was a fluke, but he did it a few more times on our trip.  If I wasn't lazy about it, I think he would have been out of diapers by now.  But I am lazy and taking a diaper off and on isn't really all that fun.

The past few weeks, he's gotten pretty serious about it.

He wants to go as soon as he gets up and cries if I don't take him when he asks.  I haven't had to change a poopy diaper in over a week.

Josie potty trained herself at 2 too.  I remember how proud I was and rushed out to get her big girl undies. But then I cried.  If you've ever had a baby go from diapers to undies you know, there's a mourning season for the loss of Diaper Butt.  I'm not ready to upgrade Gabe just yet.  I'm hoping he'll indulge me just a little longer.

I think I'm going to have to come to terms with the fact that my baby is growing up.  Without my permission.

Andrew said we need to throw out his paci soon.  Potty trained and no paci?  That might push me over the edge.

At Least We Learned "A"

Our first week of learning the alphabet went pretty well. Josie gets all excited whenever she sees an A on TV or on a sign.

But I almost lost my mind that week.

JP was having some serious issues with potty training. As in, he refused to go on the potty.

I'm all for kids learning at their own pace, but his Mom and I both agreed that he knew when he had to go and was being defient by going in his pants.

I had tried everything; rewards for doing it, timeouts for not doing it. And nothing was working.

So I had to take a break from any teachings that would not result in the end of poop in underwear.

Luckily, we seem to have found something that works, Potty Charts.

2009-176

And of course, if JP gets one, Josie thinks she needs one too.

He still isn't telling me when he has to go, so I just make him try every hour.

We're going on our third day accident free, which is a first since he started coming in July!

If the rest of the week goes as well, we'll be starting our ABC activities again next Tuesday.

And for the record, my heart goes out to all of you trying to potty train little boys!

Mission Potty Training

Little Miss is 95% done potty training.

She wears underwear all day long now and we only use diapers at nap time and nighttime now. And even then she's waking up dry, it's just I'm not willing to risk it yet! She love love loves wearing her "undies."

I went and bought diapers last week since we hadn't really officially gotten serious about potty training but it doesn't look like we'll be needing them.
I hadn't ventured out of the house with just undies until last week when I accidentally forgot to put a diaper on her when we went to Whole Foods, but she stayed dry and told me when she had to go potty so since then we have just gone diaperless!

And I already miss her diaper butt.
It feels so weird to hold her without one.

I know she did awesome potty training herself, and I knew the day was coming, but it still surprised me how sad it made me.
Just another reminder that they grow up so fast.
What was a hassle a week ago is now a fond memory that I'll carry with me.

I know we will have another baby someday and I will once again be cursing the price of diapers, but part of me wishes Little Josie would have sported the Diaper Butt look a little longer.

I was going to do a series of posts about potty training since I had such a hard time getting information on how to actually go about it, but she did it so fast that we didn't really end up using any tactics.
If we were going to be home all day, I just didn't put a diaper on her and would take her to the potty about every 20 minutes.
Sometimes I'd forget to ask and she would just tell me when she had to go.

I guess she's a Potty Prodigy.

Now to work on some counting skills!

Potty Training Update

Josie is doing great at potty training.
We spent a day last week with just undies and she had 3 accidents, but went in the potty about 5 times. A few of those were even her telling me she had to go.
I decided to just have her go bottomless yesterday and she did awesome! Not one accident. I guess there's something about the undies that reminds her of a diaper.
We hav a busy week this week and then we have a bunch of family from Minnesota coming into town the next week so I'm not sure how much training we will do.
I do think that if I could get a free week she would have it down in no time.

Potty Time

I've been threatening to start potty training Josie for almost six months now.
It seems like everytime I'm about to spend a few days getting serious about it, I start to get all mooshy about my baby growing up and decide to keep her as much of a baby as I can for a little longer.

However, my baby girl is tired of waiting for me.

About a week ago she started coming up to me with wide eyes saying, "pee pee Mama." So I'd haul her to the bathroom and she would go.
I figure if she's telling me before she goes, she is pretty much as ready as she's gonna be.
So for the past two days we've had a bottomless toddler running around.
Which has seriously cut down on our diaper count.
She's been doing great. She peed on Amy's floor once and on our sidewalk a couple times, but for the most part she's been staying dry.
I haven't attempted sleeping without a diaper (even though she wakes up dry) or going out without one.

I really don't have a method for potty training. From what I've been reading on other people's blogs, every kid is different.
So far I've learned that she is much better about remembering to tell me she has to go if she doesn't have a diaper or undies on. And that she goes to the bathroom way more then an adult does.

I'm still not pushing it.
We'll get there slowly but surely.
She has decided that M&M's aren't her thing, Jelly Beans are more up her alley.

My baby girl is growing up.

See This Face???

It's the face of a little girl who just pee pee'd on the potty for the first time!

She woke up from her nap pretty dry so off to the potty we went.
And then she went.
And I squealed!
And then we had an M&M to celebrate.

Potty Training 101 (Semi-Disgusting)

How do I potty train my child?
It's an age old question.
Every mother has dreaded the potty training stage. And with good reason.
There is nothing flattering about your child wetting their pants at Target.
We decided to wait until after vacation to even think about potty training. My sister waited to potty train my nephew until he started asking about it and I planned to follow suit.
However, Miss Independant is turning out to be a potty prodigy.
She asks to sit on the potty all the time, but just sits there and then wants to flush. Rehersal as we call it.
But tonight she was ready for the real thing.
Josie went "number 2" on her potty without any prompting from us! I am so excited!
I would have been even more excited if she had waited 5 extra minutes until I got home, but hey, when you gotta go, you gotta go!
While I'm sure we still have a long road of potty training ahead of us, the fact that she told Andrew she had to go and then went is pretty impressive.
Makes up for the fact that she can't count past 2.

I apologize for the crudeness of the following images, but I am one proud Mama! And look how proud she is.
Yup, she's defiantly her father's daughter.
