Music Together

A month ago we were sent Music Together's Family Favorites CD and Songbook to review.

 

 

Music Together is an early childhood music and movement program that 'brings harmony home'.

I love a good children's CD and this one was really good.

We listened to it at the start and end of school each day and Josie liked learning the songs.  All 19 songs were upbeat and the voices were easy to listen to.  I grew up listening to Raffi and other folky songs and this CD reminded me of those simple, fun songs.  I loved that it wasn't just pop music sang by children.  Most of the songs are simple piano music with a few symbols or other rythmn instruments which made them very pleasant to have on in the background throughout the day.

Josie loved the Dancing With Teddy song.  Her stuffed animals got lots of play in during this tune.

Music Together recommends having a few simple instruments that we didn't have.  We just substituted random things around the house that worked fine for the songs.

I looked through the songbook and thought that there were some good ideas in it for getting more out of the songs.  Most of these things were very simple and just helped point out parts of the song to children.  I loved that it is broken into sections that point out ways to enrich the music for special needs children or in different class settings.

I'm not planning to teach music lessons to the kids myself but the activities in the book are easy enough that we were able to enjoy them.

Overall, we love the CD and songs.  I don't think we will use the songbook as a part of our schooling, but we will listen to the CD often.  I feel that this would be an awesome program for a small group setting, preschool, or coop.  I recommend the CD if you have children that really enjoy music.
