Our School Room

Want to peek inside Pope Academy?

School rooms are kind of funny to me.  It's a little contradictory to my schooling philosophy.  On one hand I want most of the kid's schooling to take place outside, in the community, and in the real world.

Math in the kitchen while we bake something yummy.  Science out in the woods or on a Moon Walk.  Writing lessons simply requiring a piece of paper and a pencil and anything that inspires jotting something down.

But on the other hand, I'm a tad bit anal about supplies scattered throughout the house.  I crave order and color coded-ness.  I also learned that early education requires ample amounts of paint and glue and glitter and that just isn't easy to tote around all day.

I know a school room isn't necessary.  Up until January, we did a lot of our work at the dining room table.  Then Amber gave us an old table to use for school.  The stars aligned and the Heavens sang and Pope Academy got some new digs.

Welcome to our School Room.

The other half of the room is where the toy store exploded.

We use a small linen closet in the hall right outside of the room for all our craft supplies, extra books, and games.

And that's about it!  I love this room!

We still do a good amount of schooling outside or in the kitchen, but this has been so nice for the daily work that requires a table.  Gabe can join us at the table or play on the other side of the room.  This room gets so much more use since we added the table.

So that's where you'll find us a couple hours a day for the next 12 years!  How about you, do you homeschool?  Do you have a room or school on the fly?

It is A-D-OR-ABLE! You'll love having this central location. We still school all over the house, but I love having one place where everything is stored neatly (at least in my dreams it is) and organized. Wait...did I say organized...well kind of anyway!

amazing!! Im considering homeschooling Penny using the montessori approach (I'm not totally sold on montessori, but there are some things I really agree with and value). Your space looks wonderful!!

Love it! Love the table too. We have a desk for J, and I have a craft desk. After our first year of schooling I really didn't like the "desk" method of me teaching and him sitting below me. So this year we scooted the two desks together for a more together feel. I am like you in that I like to have things in one space - hence our school room BUT, I really like to have learning everywhere.

It's fantastic! I spent a lot of time creating a room last year and we ended up spending half the year either on the couch or at the dining room table. =) I do LOVE a nice, organized space with everything in the same room. You've done a great job! Blessings for a great year!
