For all us Stay At Home Mommy's...
"How can it be a large career to tell other people’s children about arithmetic, and a small career to tell one’s own children about the universe? How can it be broad to be the same thing to everyone, and narrow to be everything to someone? No; a woman’s function is laborious, but because it is gigantic, not because it is minute. I will pity Mrs. Jones for the hugeness of her task; I will never pity her for its smallness."
~GK Chesterton
These past few days since we decided that I would start my job as a full time mom sooner then originally planned I've struggled with not working.
I know that Andrew can provide for us and God has always come through in miraculous ways when money has been tight.
It's more the perception that some people may have of me.
That I'm lazy, that I put too much on Andrew, that it's not really work.
I went to college for 5 years and have a nice piece of paper in a closet somewhere to prove it. So I should work, right?
I found this quote just as I was starting to second guess our decision.
I am not quitting my job to stay home, I'm quitting my second job to focus on my first job.
And I don't think I'll ever regret this choice.

Love your choice of words. Who cares what others think? You are doing the most important and most rewarding job there is. They should be jealous! (:
The Big Man says:
" Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled." (Titus 2:3-5)ESV
AND
"So I would have younger widows marry, bear children, manage their households, and give the adversary no occasion for slander." (1 Tim 5:14)ESV
I think if you go along with His plan then you are good to go! As I said before, I think its sad that our culture has created a situation where women have to work for many families to make it. I will be glad when Tiffany dosn't even have to work the 8-12 hours a week that she does now.
We support you and can't wait for playdates between Josie and Everett.
I am going through this too and have to finish up the school year so I kind of feel like I'm living in both worlds. I like your perspective on it and it's nice to hear about someone making the same choice I am. Good luck!
Very well said!
I have even been given the go ahead to put Moe and Bear in a "Mother's Day out" or something and I just cannot do it knowing that I am the most important in their little lives right now. Maybe as he gets older, and needs something broader than what I can do here, we will put him in a day care a couple hours a week for socialization.
You are doing an exceptional thing with Josie. She needs you and that will build a bond stronger than anything money can buy with a degree! There's a reason they don't give diploma's for parenting... there is no way to put it into a small time frame of a class. You never graduate from it... you grow with it. It changes who you are! It doesn't just enlighten you (and it doesn't make you a whole lotta money, but it is priceless!) *smile*.
Sure hope this gets easier to fully accept into your heart. It is hard at first to just stop what you are used to and all that you have worked for but now God is calling you to something bigger and He is going to equip you for what all you are going to need. Right there with the things to say to those people who don't believe a mother should stay home with her children!
Sorry about the novel... haha
I know this post is a year old but I love it. That quote is fabulous. Thanks for sharing!
