A Visit From Ineeda

We've had a visitor at the Pope House these last couple weeks. She wasn't invited so I really didn't have time to prepare for her. She just showed up. I'm not sure how long she is staying, but I am going to start the process of kicking her out.
Her name is Ineeda, you know, as in: I Need A.
As much as I would like to say that it was my one year old who has begun the "I need a", "I want a", "Let's go get a" routine, it wasn't her who invited Ineeda over. It was me.
I'm not sure what it is, but lately I seem to add to the list of material items that I am "dying" to buy on a daily basis.
I want curtains for the house. I want a dresser and nightstands, and then I would need lamps. I want shelves, picture frames, and a chalkboard for Josie's playroom. Then I decided I need a hair cut. Josie needs a dress (like she doesn't have enough) for family pictures. I need to start sewing again. I need to paint the toy room. Seriously, the list goes on and on.
So after asking Andrew if we have any extra money for the millionth time, I heard God ask me, "Why?"
Why do I feel the need to buy things that are not mandatory? Why do I not fully appreciate what I have?
So that is my new quest. To find out "why" and fix it.
I want to be the kind of woman who is resourceful with what she has. Who finds joy in being simple and content. I want Andrew to know how much I appreciate all the hard work he is doing to make the life I live possible. And I really want Josie to know that material things do not equal happiness.
I don't want her to expect a weekly (sometimes many a week) trip to Target or the mall just to get more stuff. I've spent too long justifying my unneeded purchases with "it was on sale" or "we will use it later". It's time to start acting like an adult.
So the curtains can wait, Josie will wear what she has, and we will be happy, because we have all ready been given all that we need: each other.

I have been going through the same thing! Our simple life make-over may result in me being a SAHM soon so it is so worth it! Good luck.
