Did She Know?

Last night, as I was desperately trying to convince Josie that she should eat her dinner, I started to think about Mary.
Usually when I think of Mary, it's about how it must have been to hear him preach or seeing him heal the sick or having to watch Jesus die on the Cross. Rarely do I remember that she too was the mother of a toddler.
At some point, Jesus was Josie's age. He was learning to say his first words, he started to play games and assert his independence. There was a point where Jesus wasn't potty trained and needed help putting his shoes on.
And as I sat there thinking about this common ground that I share with the Mother of our Savior I found the most assuring, peaceful calm come over me.
Sure there are times I lose my cool or I rush that sweet little girl instead of letting her take her time. I know that I miss learning opportunities and that there are days she watches too much Elmo. But at the end of the day, I'm just trying to do the best that I can, just like Mary did.
And in 17 years, that I'm sure will go by too quickly, she will be an adult. She will become who she is going to become. Just like Jesus did.
Mary raised an amazing Man and I pray that I will be as successful in raising Josie. May she save the World in her own way and may she glorify Jesus as she does it.
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will one day walk on water?
Did you know
That your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?
Did you know
That your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you've delivered
Will soon deliver you
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Did you know
That your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand?
Did you know
That your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
And when you kiss your little baby
You've kissed the face of God?
Mary, did you know?
The blind will see
The deaf will hear
And the dead will live again
The lame will leap
The dumb will speak
The praises of the lamb
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy is lord of all creation?
Did you know
That your baby boy will one day rules the nations?
Did you know
That your baby boy is heavens perfect lamb?
This sleeping child you're holding
Is the great I am.

Though she "knew", I'm sure she had no idea.
Thank God for Mary. If she made it through the toddler years, so will I.

You probably saw this before, but it is another awesome portrait of the relationship between Mary and her son/ our Savior.

What a wonderful post. I had never given much thought to Mary raising Jesus as a toddler. Thank you for sharing those thoughts with us.

I just wanted to introduce myself. When I have time on my hand I randomly click links from MckMama's "Not Me Mondays" and check our blogs. I'm Crystal and I'm 24. I live in Gwinnett County so probably not that far from you. I live with my boyfriend and our two dogs. No kids yet for me.

I have read your entire story and my heart warmed when I read the post about Josie becoming an official Pope. You and Andrew both seem like terrific parents. Also I'm sure that you already know this but Josie has to be one of the prettiest little girls I have ever seen. She is beautiful and I think that she is so lucky to have you as her parents.

I'll keep reading to watch cute little Josie grow! Thanks for posting and good luck with getting your house decorated!

P.S. I know how you feel about the non stop weekend plans. This weekend I am moving, next weekend we are cleaning the old apartment up, the next weekend is my boyfriend's brothers girlfriend's baby shower (whew! that was a mouthful!), the one after that is my company Christmas party which I am in charge of, and finally the one after that we are going to Ohio to see my boyfriend's mom. Oh and did I mention I need to finish my Christmas shopping? One weekend at a time, one weekend at a time.........
