Nancy Larson Science

I spent a lot of time looking for a good science program for Josie.

I love science and want my kids to love it too.  There aren't a lot of science programs geared towards her age.  Most of what I found was either too simple or too in depth.

I knew when I stumbled onto Nancy Larson Science that I had found what I was looking for.

I had a hard time deciding between the new Science K program and the Science 1 program.  Josie is technically in the K age range, but we had covered most of that material already.  After debating for a week, I finally decided I'd rather have her be challenged and go slow then have it be way too easy for her so I went with Science 1.

Science 1 came with everything we will need for an entire year of science.  Opening the box was like Christmas morning.

The teacher's manual is scripted, which I love.

It really takes the burden off of trying to make sure I'm explaining things the right way.  All I have to do is glance at the summary page at the start of the week to make sure I have our supplies together and then read the manual as we do our investigations.

The student material is great.

Josie has worksheets and reviews that go with each lesson as well as a booklet that she will create for each unit.  As a new writer, the booklets are a little challenging for her right now, but I have no problem letting her dictate to me if she's not in the mood to write.

All of the materials for each unit are awesome.

I wasn't sure how good the quality would be, but it is top notch.  We spent a lot of time looking at the full body X-rays.

Josie didn't waste anytime putting the Butterfly Pavilion to use.

We found a Long Tailed Skipper in the garden and have been watching it go through the life cycle for a couple of weeks.  It's been so neat!  I can't wait to get to this unit and do all the activities that go with it.

Because I'm trying not to overload our school days, I'm planning to do science twice a week.

Using our Nancy Larson Science 1 program we will be learning about:

          - Developmental Biology
          - Botany (observing trees)
          - Exploring Sunlight, Soil, and Water
          - Investigating Animals & Their Habitats
          - Discovering What's Inside of Our Bodies
          - Examining The Life Cycle of Insects

We are two weeks into this program and I feel like we have really hit the jackpot.

I will be tracking our progress here on JTJ.  I have a good feeling that this will be both of our favorite subject.

If you'd like to learn more about Nancy Larson Science you can click here to visit their site.  Each level looks terrific and I'm sure we will be working through them all over the years.

I love how they include real xrays! Even though I am not homeschooling, I think I might want to check out some of these packages for Nate. I am always wanting something to do with him on the weekends!

Just thought I'd let you know that I ordered Science 3 plus an extra student kit based on your review.
