Still gearing up for school around here. One project I've been meaning to tackle for months now is labeling the house.
Andrew's Aunt is my Homeschooling Mentor. She is a Godly woman, full of grace and patience, and she homeschools all 6 of her kids. The last time we were together I was telling her about how anxious I was about teaching Josie to read. I felt like once she could read, I could teach her anything. But how on Earth was I going to get her to figure reading out?!?!
Her advice?
Read to her everyday and expose her to as many words as possible.
I had every intention of making labels for the house, but when I found these labels at 1+1+1=1 I didn't have to!
They are super cute and not too kiddy. Andrew already asked if he lived in a preschool. To which I replied, "Yup. And you'll live in a school for the next 15 year!"
In all fairness, I only put the ones downstairs that didn't have a home upstairs. Most of the labels are in her room or in the school/play room.
Another reading readiness product we're loving is the Leap Frog Letter Factory and Leap Frog Word Builder DVDs. If you have a preschooler, I highly recommend them. We found ours at Sam's Club for about $6 each.

Letter Factory--I swear by that one! My son knew all of his letters and sounds before he was three from that video. Granted, I was down in bed with a pregnancy and we watched it at least twice every day . . .
He would have known every word to Nemo if we'd watched that as many times.
I love this idea, and will be printing and posting things around the house too! I need to get my rear in gear with getting T to learn more again.
Nate has been begging me to teach him to read. That is one of those things that I just don't know how to approach. I think labeling things is a great idea! Did you lamintae the cards?
I like the cards but there is no way they would stay up long in my home. Between the 3 year old and the 1 year old they would be torn down fast.
