First Annual Kumbaya

About a month ago, I decided that I wanted to go camping.

I got all excited about roasting marshmellows and hot dogs, hiking through the woods, and sleeping under the stars.

And then I remembered that I don't like bugs and I have a fear of using the woods as a bathroom so I decided that our front yard was a perfectly good camping spot.

And since we would be right at the house, I decided that all of our friends needed to come join us, and thus, The First Annual Kumbaya Night was born.

This past Friday night was the big night!  We had an awesome turnout and everyone had a blast!

As we are all well aware, I tend to over plan and stress over tiny details.  I'm very proud to announce that  Andrew only had to give me one firm talking to over this one!  I nixed all my decorating ideas and just went with the flow all night!

Everyone started showing up around 6 and the guys got to work setting up camp.  I think the men folk were just as excited as the kids were to sleep in tents!

We spent the first part of the night by the pool.  The kids all got along and the women got all caught up.  A lot of friends we hadn't seen in a long time came out and it was so much fun to catch up.

We didn't need to catch up, but we did need a new picture of us together!

After some playground action we gathered up the kids and went out for a scavanger hunt in the woods!

Everyone brought food and it was yummy.

This was about the time Amber looked at me and decided my yard had never been this crazy.  There were people, tents, and food everywhere!

It was perfect.  Exactly what I had in mind when I envisioned this crazy camp out!

And then, just because I am still me, I brought out a craft for the kids!  We made lightning bugs and they were insanely cute!  But I hate the flash on my camera, so you'll have to wait for better light to see the finished product!

Smores by the bonfire:

And then we wrapped up the night with a movie on the grass!

The kids all headed to bed around 11 and pretty much went right to sleep.

And here's the spot where I'll be totally honest and admit that I did not spend the entire night outside.  I laid there, on the hard ground for a couple hours with no sleep and then decided that my soft bed and my fan were a mere 50 feet from my tent.  I didn't even expect to try to sleep out there so I gave myself a pat on the back and hightailed it to my bed!

I also neglected to think about the super annoying roosters up at Mr. Terry's house.  Everyone had a rude awakening around 4AM.

We broke down camp and everyone headed home.  I'm sure everyone went to sleep as soon as they got home!

I was way to lazy to make food for my kids so we headed to Waffle House in our PJ's to visit Andrew.

Check out the new special!

I seriously couldn't have asked for the night to go better (well, except for the roosters).  I'm already thinking of ways to make next year even better!

I laughed at the Kumbaya title. That always make me think of church camp when I was younger! Looks like lots of fun, even if you didn't sleep in the tent! lol
