Measured Up

Josie's learning about units of measurement in math.

We were supposed to be working on telling time, but I'm sort of attached to my "It's Dark Out So You Have To Go To Sleep" way of telling time, so I may be skipping over that unit.

I'll loop back around to it.  Eventually.

So last week we did some body tracing to see how big they were and it turned into quite the art project.

My kids dig body tracing.

I am fully aware of my awful tracing skills.  CSI will not be hiring me anytime soon.

We measured using markers, blocks, and shoes.  Then inches.

They loved this way more then I thought they would.  Like a 15 minute math lesson warped into a good three hours of measuring stuff.

Measuring for the win!

  1. Looks like fun! I'm also attached to the it's-dark-and-therefore-bedtime theory...I'm sure it will disappear in a few months when it no longer gets dark at 6:30! ;)

  2. I need to do something like this for my first grader.

If you want to practice your tracing skills, you could make another tracing and use the paper person to measure big things like the backyard, the driveway, or a room.

  4. I love that you spent so much time decorating your people before measuring. What a great way to make the measuring more meaningful!

So, how are you doing?
