Geography - Asia

Last week Josie learned about Asia.

I recently confessed that I am probably the last person on Earth that should be teaching geography.  Case in point, I planned to do a mini unit on each continent.  You know, eat the food, learn about the money and the culture.  Somehow I was unaware of just how many countries are on each continent.  The culture, religions, art, and food are just to vast to cover.

So we are picking one or two countries on each continent for now.  My goal is just to show Josie how different people are all over the world.  Someday we will go back and cover more countries, but for now this will work.

For Asia, I picked China as our country.

We hit up the library for some resources and hit the books.  We both had a lot of fun learning about China.  Here are a few things we did.

We read about Shuimohua in one of our books.

It's art done with only black paint and water.  Josie learned about it and then created her own Shuimohua art.

We read about the lanterns used to decorate and celebrate and then she made her own.

We spent a couple days reading about The Great Wall of China.

She was really interested in this so I kept with it a little longer then I planned.  We made our own Great Wall of China a couple of times too.

We wrapped it up with an awesome Chinese dinner!

Josie had a blast trying to eat with her "chomp" sticks!

This week we are hopping on over to Europe!
