WIWW

I'm working on about a bagillion posts but am waiting on my new MAC so here's a little What I Wore Wednesday to tide us all over.

We spent the week on a whirlwind trip to Minnesota to celebrate our Papa Moose's life.

I'm progressively more exhausted each day.

Wednesday - Church

Dress - JC Penny

Thursday - 4AM Flight

Shirt -  FROM HERE
Jeans - Target
Flip Flops - Gap

This shirt is a fundraiser that this family is doing to raise funds to bring home their baby from Africa.  You know I'm a sucker for adoption, but this shirt is awesome!  Super soft, just fitted enough to be cute and comfy, and I had about 10 people stop me at the airport to ask what it meant.  I was happy to share the site and hope they get some more sales from it.

Saturday - Papa Moose's Life Celebration

Dress - Target

Sunday - Minnesota State Fair

Tank - Target
Black Pants - Old Navy
Shorts that I really wore - GAP

Look at my cute family!

I wore black shorts to the fair but ate so much food that sweats were required as soon as I walked in the door!  Hopefully the rest of our family pics are from the waist up!

Soccer Mom

It's official.

I'm a Soccer Mom.

Minus the whole minivan thing.

I'll leave that for Amber.

Knee socks, shin guards, tiny uniforms, bouncy curly ponytails.

I've died and gone to Cuteness Heaven.

And the sleep that follows running around for an hour in the warm evening sun?

Even better.

Life

We've been busy bees lately.

I feel like August has flown by and we're knocking on September's door.

Almost time for Fall colors and apple cider and pumpkin spiced candles.

And even though September forgets to bring cooler weather to the South, I'm ready to welcome it.

I wish it would bring slower paced days, but that's doubtful.

I got the job I applied for a month or so ago.

It's only two hours a day working from home, but it will force us into a tighter schedule.

Which I thrive on, so I'm actually super excited for.

The kids will be going to a friend from church's house each morning while I work and we'll be doing school in the afternoons.

I can't wait to dive into the new adventure!

After I mapped out our new schedule, I knew I needed to wrap up some loose things before we start.

Like devouring the Hunger Games Trilogy.

I finally get the obsession everyone had over Twilight and Harry Potter.

I stayed up way past my bedtime and finished all three in a week.

It's a miracle my kids survived since I was way too busy reading to feed or care for them.

I'm actually sad that it's over.

The movie comes out next March and I'll be dressed in my Mockingjay costume for the midnight showing.

Josie got a new ride.

I got an amazing deal on it and it's kept her and her little buddies occupied since we brought it home.

I think it's adorable to see her driving around with her dolls and her groceries in the trunk.

This little dude started walking last week and has kept me on my toes since.

If I thought he was into everything before, being upright has brought an entirely new meaning to it.

He has also added about a million new words to his vocabulary.

It should come as no surprise that his favorite and most used words are "eat" and "more".

Josie started soccer and is sure to be the next Mia Hamm.

I know nothing about soccer, but I do know that she looks freaking adorable running down the field with her little soccer ball.

Her team is called The Bugs which only adds to the absolute adorablness of it all.

We have been doing lots of painting around the house.

I redid our living room and then moved on to giving Josie's room a makeover.

Her new room is now my favorite place in the house.  I have to refinish her dresser then can show you the crazy transformation.

The brick red dining room is next on my list but I'm making my Mom fly down to help me with that one.

Top all that off with the weekend we just spent in Minnesota and you see why I'm ready for a set schedule!f

Visitors!

My Sister sent me an email last Friday that they'd be coming through Atlanta on Sunday.

So we arranged a sleepover!

This was Josie's face the entire time Cash was here.

They are polar opposites.

Cash is a bit on the quiet side and Josie is anything but.  I'm sure he thinks she is crazy!

We packed a ton into the short time they were here.

Hiking in the woods, picking pears, lots of swimming, and plenty of ice cream!

It was so much fun for us to have family come to visit us!

And he's off!

*warning - my little drummer girl is in full rock mode during this video*

Just 4 days shy of 19 Months, Gabriel has decided to join the Walking Club.

And weighing in at 24 pounds, it's just in time to save my back.

I thought he would never take more then 5 steps at a time, but just like everyone told me, he just woke up last Wednesday and decided crawling was for the birds.
He is just so stinking proud of himself!

He's already chasing Josie and making her cry by taking her toys.

He's wasting no time paying her back for the last 18 Months of her doing the same to him.

And although I'm a tad bit biased, he is the cutest little official toddler I've ever seen!

Way to go Gabriel!

I Must Love Him

Last Tuesday, Andrew and I got a sitter for the day and he took me down to South Georgia for a Date Day.

10 hours of uninturupted adult time.

Heaven.

But it wasn't exactly a normal date.

My husband took me to a butcher.

Andrew's helping set up a marketing plan for a great new company, Angus Best.

They are selling fresh, local meat and trying out different ways to use the packs as a fundraiser for non-profits.

When Andrew first teamed up with Angus Best we knew the very first thing on our list was to update the website.

And what's a website without pictures?

So Andrew contracted me out to take some pictures of meat.

Strangest photo shoot ever.

It felt super weird to stage meat, but was extremely easier then taking pictures of kids!

I laughed every time I glanced up from my camera and saw my techie husband, wearing his suit, with his Apple Laptop in hand, in the middle of a butcher in South Georgia.

Fish out of water.

He takes his job very seriously!

We looked like City People which is funny since I thought we lived in the Country!

As apprehensive as I was, the day was actually really fun and educational.

I tried to be brave and go into the slaughter house, but I just couldn't stomach it.

Turns out I'm a little more City then I thought!

And to counteract my Date Day in the butcher, Andrew surprised me with tickets to see Wicked next month!

We went a few years ago and it is still my absolute favorite soundtrack of all time.

Life with Andrew is always interesting!

It's Just A Seed

Not too long ago, I was free with my words.

There was a very short distance between my thoughts and my mouth and rarely did I attempt to put more space there.

I was harsh, loud, judgemental.

I had an opinion on everything and an air of superiority.

Over the past couple years I've had a constant prayer.

It's simple, but a strong desire of my heart.

"Lord, let me have a quiet spirit.  Help me make my words be few.  When I speak I want my words to count and to edify."

It's a constant struggle for me to bite my tongue.

To keep my, often harsh, opinions to myself.

And even more so to lift them up in prayer rather then fester on them.

I know I must frustrate God.

With my one step forward, two steps back.

I've learned so much about the power of words over the last couple years.

God has taken many opportunities to point out to me how a tone of voice, a carefully choosen word, can alter the entire situation.

Fights or favor.

All wrapped up in words.

I've been working hard on using my words wisely.  And while I still fail nearly daily, I've seen incredible results on others and myself.

But this past few weeks, God's been teaching me a new lesson on words.

Not only do we need to be watchful over what we say, we need to be just as careful about what we listen to others say.

Andrew and I are overbearing parents.

We try hard to shelter our babies from anything that can hinder their faith while they are still learning the foundations.

But I hadn't thought about how that even us grown adults can be suseptible.

We love our church.

We've felt like we were right where God wants us since the first day we crossed the threshold.

But we've gotten lazy lately.

Started to gumble and complain about things we didn't fully understand that were going on.

Spoke about it like we should have a greater influence.  We could take them to the next level if they'd let us.

We pulled back from our commitments and started to envision all the changes we would make.

And then one of my closest friends started telling me about the churches they were visiting.

At first, I just listened.

And then I got super excited for her.

And then I got totally jealous.

Bible studies every week?  Sunday School activities that everyone attends?  Awesome Children's Ministry with all the bells and whistles?

Didn't I want all that too?

I did.

And I wanted it bad.

And all the sudden it was all I could think of.

Surely we were at the wrong church.

I had long conversations with Andrew about if we were really sure VTTN was where God wanted us.

I check out all the local churches websites.

I did church drive-bys.

I was sure God was going to tell us to move.

I went to church the next Sunday fully expecting confirmation on what I was feeling.

Instead, I got a brand new lesson on the power of words.

Well, it's actually not new at all.  It's thousands of years old.

Words are like seeds.

And if those seeds are planted in soil that's been prepared, it will grow.

And if it's allowed to grow, you will reap exactly what you've sown.

My heart had been prepared for dissatisfaction.

Grumbling was my plow.

Complaining was my tractor.

It was fully fertile the day I took in the seed of what my friend was saying.

And I let it grow.

I sat in church that day while Pastor Keith repeated exact words that I had used to try to justify why we should leave the church.

And all I could do was smile and the exact opposite confirmation of what I had been expecting.

The lesson was learned.

The Bible tells me that, "The power of life and death is in the tongue." (Proverbs 18:21)

What I say, and what I listen to other people say, will have results in my life.

Especially if I'm not sure of God's plan for me.

Words are like seeds.

And it all starts with a seed.

Letter P

We are starting school on September 1st.

Which means we are running out of time to finish Alphabet Summer.

At this point, any activity that starts with a letter we haven't done is game.

Grasping at straws here people.

So when I spied Andrew and Josie picking pears off our pear tree, I whipped out her workbook and we wrapped up Letter P.

Andrew even threw in a Life Science Lesson and they talked about all the bees then watched them for awhile.

This one had 5 different kinds of bees on it.

They were fighting eachother.  It was pretty interesting!

I doubt we will actually get through all our letters, but hopefully we will cross a couple more off these next couple weeks.

Usborne Books

Usborne Books is an awesome company that is selling some pretty amazing books.

We are using a ton of them for our curriculum this year.

The science books are my favorite so far.

Non-Fiction for kids is hard to pull off, but Usborne gets it right on with the great pictures and simple wording.  Yet they still get in all the facts.

You can get books on weather, volcanos, anatomy, astronomy, birds, bugs, trains, planes.

You name it, there's a book to learn more about it.

And they are cheap!

The science books we are using are only $4 each!

Go check out Usborne Books.

And if you see something you like, place an order!

My show closes Friday.

I hope you love them as much as we do.

S'Mores

And there's only one thing I like about marshmallows.

S'MORES!

I'll be honest, campfires in August are not the best idea.

But it crossed 2 more things off our Summer List and we followed it with a long night swim so it wasn't too unbearable.

The homemade marshmallows were a campfire flop.

Turns out you need all those preservatives to prevent a gloopy, melty mess.

We got lucky though and I found a bag of real marshmallows in the back of my pantry that only recently expired.

I love S'mores!

All Natural

A few months ago, Andrew and I fell off the healthy eating bandwagon.

And we fell hard.

McDonalds, Chick-fil-a, and twice a day ice cream.

I started trying to coupon and while I was still able to get a lot of healthy food using them, I also found myself stocking our cabinets with a ton of cheap convenience foods and snacks.

It didn't bother me at first, but lately I've been feeling sluggish and when I put my jeans on for the first time in months they were a bit too snug for my liking.

So we are trading in our coupons for a strict grocery budget and going back to our bi-weekly treks to Whole Foods.

We even tried Trader Joe's this past week and loved it.

Now, please don't mistake us eating "healthy" for us eating "diet."

Our goal is All Natural.

Case and point, Andrew's favorite part of us going back to this kind of eating?

Ben & Jerry's is all natural.

Basically, I want to be able to pronounce the ingredients in our food.

I'm also trying to make more of our food from scratch.

My first project?

Marshmallows.

Not sure why I picked this sticky project since Josie's the only marshmallow fan in our family other then she's the princess and likes them so I make them.

And I'm happy to say, I knew what all the ingredients are and actually had them on hand.

Now, not all of these are all natural.  That baking spray is probably as far as we can get from it.

Baby steps.

My little helper was very all natural.  Frizzy hair and all.

They were actually very easy to make and not at all as sticky as I thought they would be.

And while I still could only stomach one, Josie assured me they are very, very good!

I'm considering Letter M crossed off my list for Alphabet Summer.

Here's the recipe we used: MARSHMALLOWS
